Pelican Power Pack v2.0 [Modularized]

posted Jun 25, 2012, 3:20 PM by Wesley Catig

I finally get around to posting this new and improved set-up. My first version combined the everything into one small pelican case. It was severely limited by the now relatively smal 12Ah SLA. I managed to destroy the battery by over charging it with a cheap charger. I planned on redoing it with a deep cycle SLA of the same size, but never got around to it.

I picked up a few used items to complete this version 2.0. Though the components were already set up in a similar fashion, I managed to redo it and make it my own.

The benefits of this set up:
  • Modularity. I can swap things around and make it easier to transport and only carry what I need
  • Bigger capacity batteries, these are two 35Ah SLA's with a combined total of 70Ah compared to the previous 12Ah
  • Better charger, smart charger to carefully charge the batteries
  • Mil-Spec connections, a little difficult to use, but the pros outweigh the cons

Here is the breakdown of the set-up:
  • 3x Pelican 1300's
  • 1x Pelican 1200
  • Power Sonic PSC-124000A 12v SLA charger
  • 12v computer fan
  • 2x 12v 35Ah SLA battery
  • 400w inverter
  • 12v Automobile receptacle w/USB adapter
  • Digital voltmeter
  • Miscellaneous Mil-Spec connections
  • Fuses

And now for the pictures, they pretty much speak for themselves.

I wrote this for a class last quarter and converted it into a technical article. You have to be a member to see it, but hopefully some of you are.

Moleskine Mod: Pen Holder

I know I am not the first, but I thought that I would share what I did. I used the plastic from a DVD case, a lighter to form it, and a glue gun to set everything in place. You can also see the slightly modified bookmark. I hated how it flapped around, so I slipped on some shrink tube, tied a knot, trimmed the excess, and voila!

And of course it’s not complete without a WESBC sticker on it!

Pelican EDC Edition

Pelican 1170 + 2x Cocoon Grid-it CPG5's. My take on the EDC "bag".

I got my inspiration from DArtagnan's post. Thinking about taking out the items that I still normally pocket carry (most of the bottom portion) and throwing in a small bag/organizer for stuff I don't need that often. Note that I don't carry this everywhere, but it is with me or near me when I go out. Since I practically have everything in my car this is a way for me to keep track of my EDC items that I chose not to put in my pockets that day. It's mostly if I'm going out in a friends car or in a car that's not my own, more of a small EDC car "bag".

Why a Pelican over a bag (which I still may do in the future)? Simple, I love Pelican cases (in case you couldn't tell). I already had this 1170 for my SF 9P+A19+KT2 Turbohead+HO-M4A but I always though it was the perfect size for EDC use. Plus I'm not too sold on gear slingers and I think backpacks are too big for my intended use. I'm going to play around with it for the next few weeks until I get happy with the set up.

Sharpie dual tip
SAK Spartan (just got it)
4 CR123's
Hand Sanitizer

Carabiner with fauxton

Spy capsule with 4 extra strength Tylenol
Gorilla tape (not sure how much I just rolled it till I thought it was too big)
Small spray bottle of cologne
Pen and Pencil
3x spare phone batteries (they were $3 shipped off amazon! easier than bringing a charger and worrying about a finding a plug)

Top Inside Zippered back:
Band aids
Alcohol Wipes
Index cards
Fresnel Lens
Ziploc bags (quarts)

Seiko SKX007
BM Ritter Grip with Wilkins G10 grips

Pelican Macboook Case

Pelican 1470

I've had this set up for a little over a year already. It's been carried with me from off-road trips to studying for finals. It's protected my macbook many times from all impacts that it encountered. A couple months ago the purghe valve popped off and Pelican sent me a replacement free of charge. Another example of their top notch customer service and a warranty.

I put this little food kit in my FJ because I previously just had a couple packs of ramen and candy in a small pouch.

I made all these myself including drawing up designs. This was around 5 years ago when I was really getting into the gear aspect of airsoft. First attempt at an Admin pouch using material from another pouch.
